Monitoring plays a critical role in learning throughout USAID’s Program Cycle and is used to determine whether USAID is accomplishing what it sets out to achieve, what effects programming is having in a region, and how to adapt to changing environments.

Monitoring is the ongoing and systematic tracking of information relevant to USAID’s strategies, projects, and activities. Monitoring serves two important functions:

  1.  Learning and adaptive management: Relevant,high-quality monitoring data informs learning and decisions during implementation, allowing USAID to adapt in a timely way to ensure that strategies, projects, and activities contribute to intended results.

  2. Accountability: Monitoring data  provide the public with information on the progress USAID is making; and stakeholders with information needed to inform decision-making.
