Faith-based and community organizations are on the front lines of development and humanitarian assistance in every corner of the world. Since its founding, USAID has partnered with and alongside faith-based and community organizations to advance shared development and humanitarian assistance objectives. These critical partnerships expand USAID’s opportunities to create and deliver sustainable, locally-led solutions within our broader development agenda.
The Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships (FBNP) leads the Agency’s faith-engagement efforts by building bridges between USAID and faith-based organizations and religious communities to advance shared diplomatic, international development, and humanitarian goals worldwide.
FBNP works to:
Build bridges: FBNP provides faith-based and community organizations with resources for partnering with USAID and connects organizations with Agency leadership and staff in Washington and USAID Missions around the world to advance shared priorities.
Strengthen Capacity: FBNP strengthens the capacity of the USAID workforce to build partnerships with faith-based and community organizations that are consistent, effective, and built to last by providing data-driven tools, evidence-based resources, publicly available research, technical assistance, and training.
Advance Policy: FBNP advances policy that strengthens locally-led development and engages diverse communities in pursuit of U.S. foreign policy goals. In September 2023, USAID launched “Building Bridges In Development: USAID’s Strategic Religious Engagement Policy.” This policy affirms the important role of religious actors as strategic development partners and provides a foundation from which the Agency can build and strengthen partnerships to advance shared priorities.
