At USAID, we are proud to stand by the Ukrainian people—to strengthen their democracy and sustain their economy as they defend their homeland.  Since Putin’s full-scale war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the United States, through USAID, has surged support to rapidly address urgent humanitarian needs, while also investing in Ukraine’s economy and building resilient infrastructure and institutions to help Ukraine recover from Putin’s ruthless attacks and sustain a lasting peace.

We’ve helped repair Ukraine’s  energy and heating systems to counter Putin’s attempts to wield the harsh winter as a weapon against the people of Ukraine. We’ve supported Ukraine’s government to continue delivering critical public services, pay its civil service, and provide emergency relief to the people most in need. We’ve rapidly expanded our work to protect the public health system from the deadly consequences of Russia’s war, and supported Ukraine’s health institutions to restore services, while advancing progress on critical reforms. We’ve invested in Ukraine’s farmers and agribusinesses, addressing immediate agriculture production and exports needs and challenges caused by the war, while building the sector’s capacity and resilience. And we continue to bolster Ukrainian efforts to fight corruption at every level to build public trust, maintain donor support, attract private sector investment, safeguard the country’s institutions, and speed up its integration with its European neighbors.

Russia’s war has also caused devastating reverberating effects all over the world, upending the global economy, wreaking havoc on food and fuel prices, and threatening global food security. In response, we’ve surged humanitarian assistance to countries facing the most severe forms of hunger to avert a catastrophe and have helped build more resilient, sustainable, and equitable food systems for the future.

USAID remains committed to the people of Ukraine and will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes to win the war against Russia’s aggression and help Ukraine emerge as a strong and capable sovereign, independent, democratic, and prosperous society free to choose its own future.
