Financial Support for Honors Students

Do you have a research idea but would need to buy supplies to be successful? Are you interested in an academic conference in your discipline but need financial support to travel? The Honors College is committed to supporting our students in all aspects of their educational pursuits. This means we offer Honors students a diverse array of grants, funding, and scholarships to support educational experiences. Check them out below!

To be eligible for Honors funding, students should have a 3.25 GPA or above. Applicants who do not meet this GPA minimum may be asked to create and share a plan for how to work towards this academic standard.

    Enriched Educational Experience Fund

    Have an educational opportunity?

    Do you need money to help support an educational experience? Perhaps there is an upcoming conference in your major discipline you will like to attend or maybe you would like to purchase research supplies necessary for a project you are working on. Apply for the Honors College Enriched Educational Experience Fund to help support your pursuits. *Please note, if expenses for your project are related to the capstone project please apply for the Capstone Research/Creative Grant instead. 

    Applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. For the spring/summer 2024 semester the deadlines for a completed application are:

    Capstone Research/Creative Grants

    Are you working on your Capstone?

    The Honors College welcomes grant applications to support research and creative work, specifically to support the cost of materials and related travel. On average students typically receive between $1000 to $2000 in support to cover approved, reimbursable expenses related to the capstone project. Where justifiable some support awards might exceed that average amount. Grant applications must be submitted on an individual (per student) basis, even if the project is a collaboration with other students.

    Applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. For the spring/summer 2024 semester the deadlines for a completed application are:

    • April 15, 2025

    Please note that for a completed grant application a Capstone Initiation Form must already be submitted and capstone mentor approval must be provided by the deadlines listed above.

    Capstone Completion Grants

    December Graduation Deadline: September 2 | May/August Graduation Deadline: February 3

    Are you completing your capstone this semester?

    Apply for the Capstone Completion grant for up to $500 to support your research and/or creative activity. The main purpose of the award is to give students a financial boost in the weeks leading to the completion of the capstone project.

    J.O. Willits Prize

    Application Deadline: February 24

    Are you interested in ethical issues?

    The Honors College has up to two $1,000 awards to support research and/or creative activity for students in any field working on projects that engage issues of ethics in some capacity. This grant is officially named the J.O. Willits Prize, supported by the Garber family.

    Study Abroad/Away Scholarships

    Deadlines vary by semester

    Gain a life-changing experience abroad.

    Apply for funds to study abroad through the WyoScholarships application portal (the general scholarships application will be required before the Honors Study Abroad/Away Application can be accessed).

    • Fall Application Deadline: Aug 15
    • J-Term Application Deadline: Dec 15

    Are you interested in research on women's history?

    The Honors College has partnered with vthe Louisa Swain Foundation to support student research or projects that explore issues of women in society and across history.
