The University of Wyoming Percussion Ensemble, directed by UW Department of Music faculty member Andy Wheelock, will present a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
Tickets are $12 for the public, $9 for senior citizens and $6 for students. A nominal processing fee will be charged for each ticket. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984.
The program opens with two pieces -- “Bolero” by E. Rosales and “In a Monastery Garden” by Albert Ketèlbey -- followed by “Gravity” by Marc Mellits, which received its abstract title from its propensity to create a feeling of depth and falling or of drawing objects to the center.
Emma O’Halloran’s “SHELL” was commissioned and performed by X4 Percussion Quartet. Ivan Trevino’s marimba composition “Watercolor Sun” was commissioned and recorded by the Grammy Award-winning quartet Third Coast Percussion.
The concert closes with traditional African songs arranged by Wheelock, featuring members of the Laramie High School Percussion Ensemble.
