Pursue a hospitality career with UW’s hospitality management minor

Dream of managing an iconic resort? Or do you want to plan events in unique destinations? UW’s hospitality business minor gives students the skills they need to pursue exciting careers in the hospitality industry.

The hospitality business management minor teaches students about a variety of functions in the hospitality industry, including food and beverage, consumer relations,  tourism, and lodging. This program includes 15-credit-hours, made up of three required courses and your choice of approved electives.

Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at UW to pursue a minor in hospitality business management.

Dr. Sara Ghezzi leads UW’s hospitality program. Dr. Ghezzi is a certified hospitality educator and has been a valued faculty member at the University of Wyoming since 2020.

With a decade of industry experience spanning various sectors within hospitality, her expertise brings invaluable insights to the classroom. Dr. Ghezzi's research is dedicated to addressing critical food safety concerns across the industry, with a particular focus on catering and food trucks.

What can you do with a hospitality business management minor?

The hospitality management minor prides itself on preparing students for the workforce. In fact, our students have a 100% job placement rate after graduation. That means all of our minor students find a job — and many of them work in their ideal role in hospitality!

Service-Learning & Research Opportunities

Hospitality management minor students have the opportunity to engage with prominent hospitality companies through immersive case studies and market research projects, offering valuable hands-on experience. 

 

Networking Events

There are many opportunities for hospitality management minors to network during their time at UW. The College of Business and the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality Initiative (WORTH) partner to host the hospitality and tourism career fair every spring. Students additionally have the chance to participate in Wyoming’s hospitality and tourism convention, where they can network with hospitality and tourism leaders from across the state.

The hospitality minor has opened my eyes not only to customer service, but the immense amount of opportunity within this field. Sara Ghezzi has created assignments, group projects, and has taken her classes on tours through different facilities/ hotels in town to reflect exactly what hospitality is.
