MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — A third high school student from eastern Kentucky has discovered a star.

According to The Independent (http://bit.ly/1x3CuTB), Rowan County High School senior Sonny Ernst reported in June that he had found a pulsar known as a rotating radio transit and it was recently confirmed.

Ben Malphrus, chair of the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at Morehead State University, called it "a significant discovery."

Ernst is a Morehead State early college student and performed his research through the Pulsar Search Collaboratory.

Ernst and others, including Joe Swiggum, a pulsar expert and research scientist from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, will give a presentation Thursday about the discovery at the university’s Space Science Center Star Theater.

Two other Rowan County High School seniors have each discovered a millisecond pulsar.
