School districts share staffing updates ahead of new school year
School districts are sharing updates on staffing ahead of the new academic year
FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The new school year has begun for students at three Fayette County public schools: Rise STEM Academy for Girls, William Wells Brown Elementary, and Harrison Elementary. These schools welcomed students back to the classroom Tuesday morning.
As the start of the school year approaches for the majority of schools in the region, staffing questions are still present following previous years. Many Fayette County schools, along with others across the Commonwealth, are set to start classes on August 14th.
Recent years have posed significant challenges for schools nationwide, with widespread teacher and staff shortages impacting classrooms and school bus routes. However, school officials in different counties express confidence in their preparedness for the upcoming year.
Scott County Schools reported a notable improvement in staffing compared to the previous year. While a few positions remain unfilled, the district is making substantial progress in addressing staffing needs.
Fayette County Public School Chief of Human Resources, Jennifer Dyar, also report being well-staffed, with only a few vacancies.
“We have about 3,000 certified staff. Currently, we have all of those filled with the exception of about 30, due to some transitions and people growing into opportunities in the district. So this is typical about time of year. We will still be recruiting parent educators, our bus drivers monitors, our bus monitors throughout the full school year,” said Dyar.
Officials from various other county public schools have been contacted for comment, and their responses are pending as the new school year approaches.
