Differential Larval Growth Strategies and Trophodynamics of Larval Atlantic Bluefin Tuna from Two Discrete Spawning Grounds

This study compares the growth and trophic dynamics of Atlantic bluefin tuna larvae from the Gulf of Mexico and the Mediterranean Sea.

Seascape Connectivity Modeling Predicts Hotspots of Fish-derived Nutrient Provisioning to Restored Coral Reefs

We illustrate the utility of spatial graphs as a data- and resource-efficient technique for quantifying and communicating complex ecological connectivity information.

A Large Aerobic Scope and Complex Regulatory Abilities Confer Hypoxia Tolerance in Larval Toadfish Across a Wide Thermal Range

This study examines the oxygen demands and tolerance of larval and juvenile toadfish across a range of temperatures.

Pelagic Sargassum in the Gulf of Mexico driven by ocean currents and eddies, Harmful Algae

This study uses satellite data to track the origens and transport pathways of pelagic Sargassum in the Gulf of Mexico. We found that Sargassum can come from the northwestern Gulf or be transported from the northwestern Caribbean Sea by ocean currents and eddies (circular currents). The spatial distribution of Sargassum in the Gulf is largely shaped by the Loop Current System and associated eddies.

Killer Whales in the Gulf of Mexico and North Atlantic Off the Southeastern United States

Killer whales occur in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Atlantic, including off the southeastern United States. Data from cetacean surveys during 1990–2021 and other sources were combined to assess killer whale biology, including spatial and temporal distribution, social structure, genetics, morphology, acoustics, and predatory behavior.

Age, Growth, and Reproductive Biology of Achilles Tang (Acanthurus achilles) Around Hawai’i Island, USA

Our study highlights that the basic biology of Achilles tang poses unique challenges to fisheries managers looking to ensure its sustainable harvest.

False Killer Whales and Fisheries in Hawaiian Waters: Evidence From Mouthline and Dorsal Fin Injuries Reveal Ongoing and Repeated Interactions

Results suggest that efforts to reduce bycatch and begin monitoring of fisheries that overlap the range of the endangered MHI population are needed.

The Role of Small Pelagic Fish in Diverse Ecosystems: Knowledge Gleaned From Food-Web Models

Food-web models represent a synthesis of knowledge of these dependencies and are a platform for evaluating the consequences of change in small pelagic fish productivity.

Within-Region Differences in Growth Responses of an Herbivorous Coral Reef Fish to Local and Regional Climatic Processes

Synchrony in inter-annual growth patterns indicates a detectable sensitivity to changes in climatic or environmental conditions.

Vaccination of Endangered Wildlife as a Conservation Tool: Hindsights and New Horizons in the Pandemic Era

We recommend the development of scientifically based international guidelines and a transdisciplinary forum with a specific emphasis on endangered wildlife vaccination.
