$32 Million Project

The Pence Hall project is part of the University's Asset Preservation initiative— a multi-phase effort to preserve existing campus buildings so they continue to serve their intended functions well into the future. 


24,000+ Net Square Feet

Across four floors, Pence Hall will house:

The new Pence Hall will feature:

  • Five classrooms
  • Large auditorium
  • Seminar room
  • Two computer labs
  • Whitebox studio
  • Indoor and outdoor gathering spaces 

Endless impact

The addition of Pence Hall to our CI facilities, which already include McVey Hall and Lucille Caudill Little Library, will form an integrated, cohesive CI neighborhood in the heart of UK's campus.

Yesterday, the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees formally accepted a $2.5 million gift from philanthropist, entrepreneur, horsewoman and award-winning journalist Misdee Wrigley Miller and her husband — businessman, lifelong horseman and accomplished polo player James Miller — that will support the renovation and expansion of UK’s Pence Hall, the future home of the UK College of Communication and Information.

New Pence podcast studio named

The College of Communication and Information is pleased to announce the naming of the Elizabeth “Scoobie” Ryan Podcast and Multimedia Studio, which will be housed in the newly renovated Pence Hall, set to open in Fall 2025.

Construction begins in March 2024

Following the College of Design's recent move to the Gray Design building in March, construction fencing went up surrounding historic Pence Hall, which will soon become the centerpiece of a three-building CI neighborhood in the heart of campus.
