Depending on your institution's Canvas theme, the Canvas interface may display differently than shown in this video, but the functionality is the same.

Admin Tools (Admins) Video Script

In this video, you will learn about the Admin Tools, where you can restore courses, view notifications, and access logging reports.

To begin, click the Admin Tools link in the Account Navigation menu. From the Restore Courses tab, you can restore courses that have been deleted either by you or by an instructor. A course can only be restored using the Course ID number. If you don’t already have this information available, you can find it listed in the instructor’s User Details page in their list of page views. You can also locate a Course ID by running a provisioning report for courses. To make sure the deleted course is included in the report, select the checkbox to show deleted objects. In the Course ID field, enter the Course ID for the course you want to restore. Then click the Find button. When the course appears, click the Restore button. Canvas will confirm you have restored your course.

To view the course, click the View Course button. To add user enrollments to the course, click the Add Enrollments button. From the View Notifications tab, you can verify whether a user is receiving the appropriate notifications. The View Notifications feature must first be enabled in your account by your Customer Success Manager and can be managed as a user role permission. To view a user’s notifications, enter the user’s name in the Search People field. Click the user’s name, then enter a date range for which you want to view the user's notifications. Click the Find button and view the user’s applicable notifications.

From the Logging tab you can view Login and Logout Activity, Grade Change Activity, and Course Activity for users in your account. To view a user’s Login and Logout Activity, select the Login/Logout activity option from the drop-down menu. Enter the user’s name, user ID, or login SIS ID. Then, click the name of the person in the list that appears. Enter the date range for which you would like to view the user’s logging history and click the Find button. The list of Login and Logout activity will then appear below. The process is similar for viewing Grade Change Activity and viewing Course Activity. Fill out the corresponding fields for each log type to view the activity.
