What can you do with this degree?

The purpose of health promotion is to promote quality of life for all people. This area of study is interdisciplinary, extending into biology, psychology, sociology, and medicine. Health promotion generally focuses on the whole individual, including social and emotional dimensions, not just the physical.

Health education specialists develop programs to teach people about conditions affecting well-being. Community health workers promote wellness by helping people adopt healthy behaviors.

With this degree, you will be eligible to:

  • Take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam
  • Work in hospitals, health departments, worksite wellness, state or national agencies and organizations, or similar settings
  • Apply to graduate schools in health related areas of study

What You'll Study

The B.S. in Health Promotion requires completion of the following:

  1. UK Core requirements
  2. Specified course work in Program Related Studies and Professional Education
  3. Health promotion major coursework
  4. Completion of a university-approved minor

Health Promotion Badge Program

Health Promotion Badges are specifically designed for any student interested in acquiring a strong foundation in current and emerging health-related topics. 

Sex & Drug Education and Prevention Badge: for students interested in sexuality and drug education principles. In addition, it provides an opportunity to learn about the countless growing career options in these areas. 

Critical Health Issues Badge: for students interested in current and emerging health-related topics, as well as approaches to enhance interpersonal health.  

Healthy Living Badge for students interested in learning how to promote personal wellbeing and acquiring skills for future success in a health-related profession or interest area.
