About the Program

Health promotion is a process that enables individuals, groups, and communities to become empowered to take control of their health. This involves health education as well as many other ecological supports of health. The curriculum equips students with a wide variety of skills and backgrounds and prepares them to explore an interest area in health and wellness and/or enter a graduate degree program related to health promotion.

Coursework in the health promotion minor includes topical health content areas, introduction to health education and health promotion, and program planning. These courses provide the successful student with a strong foundation for advanced studies in health promotion, and the ability to tie in health promotion concepts in their chosen career.

The minor in health promotion is not a degree in health promotion, but it does allow the student to gain an in-depth understanding of the principles of health and well-being associated with health promotion, while simultaneously completing prerequisites necessary for admission into many related graduate programs.

How to Apply

Prospective students: Minors and certificates are declared once you are a current student. 

Current students: To add the Health Promotion minor, log on to your myUKGPS. Under “My Program of Study” on the right side of the page, click the link “Request a major change”. This will then allow you to add the minor. If you have questions, please contact your academic advisor.
