The 2025 Sugar Bowl is a college football bowl game that is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The 91st annual Sugar Bowl game will be one of the College Football Playoff (CFP) quarterfinals and will feature Notre Dame and Georgia. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. CST. The Sugar Bowl will be one of the 2024–25 bowl games concluding the 2024 FBS football season.[2] Sponsored by the Allstate insurance company, the game is officially known as the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Background
[edit]The 2025 Sugar bowl is a quarterfinal game for the College Football Playoff (CFP).[3] Georgia was ranked second in the final CFP rankings, earned the second seed in the field of 12 teams, and received a first-round bye. The winner of the Sugar Bowl will advance in the playoff to the Orange Bowl to face the winner of the Fiesta Bowl.[4] Tenth-seed Indiana (eighth in the final CFP rankings) and seventh-seed Notre Dame (fifth in the final CFP rankings) competed for the other spot in the Sugar Bowl.[3][5] That game was won by Notre Dame, 27–17.[6]
This will be the fourth meeting between the Bulldogs and the Fighting Irish,[7] following a 2017 and 2019 home-and-home series where Georgia won both games. The two teams have previously met in the postseason once, in the 1981 Sugar Bowl, a 17–10 Georgia win.
