Amani Corvelle Hooker[1] (born June 14, 1998) is an American professional football safety for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and was selected by the Titans in the 2019 NFL draft.
Early life
[edit]Hooker attended Park Center Senior High School in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He committed to the University of Iowa to play college football.[2]
College career
[edit]Hooker played at Iowa from 2016 to 2018. During his career, he had 125 tackles, six interceptions, one sack, and one touchdown. As a junior in 2018, he was the Tatum-Woodson Big Ten Conference Defensive Back of the Year after recording 65 tackles, four interceptions, and one sack.[3] Hooker skipped his senior year to enter the 2019 NFL draft.[4][5]

Hooker was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft.[9] On May 15, 2019, he signed a four-year rookie contract worth $3,253,481, with a $733,481 signing bonus and a 2019 cap hit of $678,370.[10] Hooker played all 16 games for the season, primarily on special teams, and finished his rookie season with 20 total tackles.[11]
In the 2020 season, Hooker played all 16 games for the Titans with three starts. Hooker recorded 51 total tackles, eight pass deflections, and four interceptions.[12]
Hooker moved into a starting role at free safety for the 2021 season. On September 14, 2021, Hooker was placed on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury in Week 1.[13] He was activated on October 18 prior to Week 6.[14] Hooker finished the season with 62 tackles, four pass deflections, one interception, and a forced fumble across 12 games, starting all of them.[15]
On September 9, 2022, Hooker signed a three-year, $33 million contract extension with the Titans.[16] For the 2022 season, he recorded 45 tackles, three pass deflections, one interception, and a forced fumble across nine games, missing some intermittently due to injuries.[17]
For the 2023 season, Hooker recorded 85 tackles, seven pass deflections, one interception, and a forced fumble across 13 games.[18]
On October 13, 2024, Hooker got his first interception of the season by picking off Indianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Flacco in Week 6 of the 2024 season.[19] Later in Week 9, he caught two interceptions from Drake Maye in a 20-17 win against the New England Patriots, the second of which ended the game through possession in overtime.[20]
