Point of View

[edit]

I realize that to medical doctors or people who know someone with the human disorder of brachycephaly, the term "mainly" refers to the rare human disorder. However, it's very common to refer to dogs and cats as brachycephalic or dolicocephalic, and many pet owners, breeders, and researchers will be familiar with the term from that context. I only made minor changes so far, but I feel like the introduction should be more general-- instead of referring immediately to the human condition and then later mentioning dogs, perhaps it should say something along the lines of "brachycephaly is a condition of having a reduced length of the head or face" and then going into how it is a pathological condition in humans, a normal variation in animal breeds, and so on. Then the specifics on the cause of the human condition can be placed under its own subsection. Let me know what you think, wikidenizens. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr.queso (talkcontribs) 21:53, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It also seems to have been a common term used in old anthopological descriptions, when classifying people into different races on the shape of their head. In any case, it was a link from an article on such a subject that lead me here, and (presumably) they weren't talking about developmental disorders of the skull (although given the views of some of the old anthropologists, that can't be guaranteed). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.152.50.234 (talk) 16:20, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"flat head syndrome"

[edit]

I find that literature more often refers to plagiocephaly as "flat head syndrome." Are both brachycephaly and plagiocephaly (as Wikipedia describes) considered "flat head syndrome?" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vokesk (talkcontribs) 18:25, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Image hard to interpret

[edit]

Could the skulls be classified better? Perhaps by indicating which skull is brachi vs dolico, by adding "(left)" and "(right)"? Zacce (talk) 13:15, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
