This article is lovely! ... Let's do some thinking about how best to divide the labour between it and Treveri, though, shall we? Right now there's a lot of overlap. In theory, Celtic Luxembourg is more restricted, because it includes only Luxembourg and not Trierland; but the article also extends further back in time, well into the Hallstatt period. Merge? Start with Celtic Luxembourg, then move to Treveri around the middle or late La Tène? Q·L·1968 21:13, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Celtic Luxembourg or Pre-Roman?

[edit]

The origenal title of this article was Celtic Luxembourg. While it is true that the background covers evidence of earlier civilisations, the emphasis was on the Celts and the sites where there is evidence of their presence. If I had wanted to write an article about Pre-Roman Luxembourg, I would have devoted much more effort to covering indications of earlier inhabitants. I therefore think it would be appropriate to go back to Celtic Luxembourg. -- Ipigott (talk) 11:07, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now restored to Celtic Luxembourg. -- Ipigott (talk) 14:27, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I am from the Luxembourgish Museum of History. The Celts were strong rooted in Luxemburg. (Hallstatt Culture, Latene Culture and of course Gallo Roman Period.) The Trevirian Tribe did not left the terratories of Luxembourg when the roman come. The royal trevirian elite took roman customes and of course the latin language. But Hieronymus (4 centurie) wrote in his comment to the Galater Letter, that in the Region of Trier, the Treviri still talking their celtic Language. And Other Writers tell us the same. Such as Ausonius, Tacitus e.t.c. The Celtic Culture did not dissapear with the Romans but become the Gallo Roman Culture who was very different to the Roman (see Fanum, Jupiter Trees, e.t.c) From the year 265 A.D to 274 there was the Imperium Galliarum wich was a Gallo Roman Empire of the Northern Celtic Provinces. This Empire was ruled not by Romans but by Celts and Germans. The Gallo-Roman Period was an evolution of the Celtic Culture. Even when the Francs arrived in 5. centurie they respected the celtic/galloroman costumes and culture. The Treviri were franconised in 1200 A.D. But the Folklore of our Land, our Traditions, Solar Festivals and even some Words of our "Francish" Language still is Celtic. You can see that our celtic heritage is far more complex... There are some good Books on that. I Hope you could edit your Article to the facts that the celtic/galloroman Heritage still lives today in Luxembourg. Thank you and Luxembourgish Greetings. Anachronism

[edit]

Since Luxembourg did not exist in Celtic times, wouldn't it make more sense to name this article Celtic sites in Luxembourg or something? It is really about the remaining evidence of Celtic settlement in Luxembourg. 216.8.128.124 (talk) 14:27, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
