species/varieties

[edit]

One of the pictures in the article is captioned "a 'black-nosed' crappie". It would be helpful to know whether this is a third species, a subspecies, or simply a local Arkansas term for one of the species described. If the former, perhaps it might merit a section of its own. If the latter, perhaps the caption might be changed. --Haruo (talk) 04:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A blacknose is simply a pattern variation in a black crappie's color. Some brood lines have been created by fish farms to enhance the chance of it showing up but otherwise it's simply an oddly patterned black crappie, genetically the same species. Here are some links discussing it:

Splitting Black Crappie and White Crappie

[edit]

The notability is there for two articles, and plenty of reliable sources. However, since this article does not yet have sufficient sourced material for two articles, I will remove the tag.Fishgeek (talk) 23:16, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Distribution

[edit]

Where in the world can you find this fish? In the article it says that you can find it "in all of the lower 48 states", and I thought of the southernmost countries of Southern America, Africa and Oceania. It wasn't until I clicked the link that I found out that it meant "the lower 48 states of the United States of America". Therefore it should be stated whether or not one can find this fish outside the USA, and not only where in the USA one can find it.

So don't forget to write the articles from a general perspectve and not from an USAnian perspective.--90.177.152.103 (talk) 13:07, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
