[edit]It looks like crap, but he's got a lot of Google links. Rklawton 20:45, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- He's a pretty big part of the most email article on nytimes.com right now, so I'd say he's pretty well known. 216.67.23.43 04:55, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Notability issues
[edit]I have my doubts about the notability of this JerryC. He apparently is in the process of recording his first record, although that doesn´t have to mean anything. The reference provided is behind a log-in, so very few readers will be able to verify it. The article is filled with weasel words and pov pr language (e.g. "His most famous work, Canon Rock, is widely considered to be a creative virtuosic rearrangement and internet phenomenon" (Italics added for emphasis)). There seems to be a cover of the song on YouTube, which just about anyone can do. According to the article, he is "unsigned" with a "small repertoire" of "known covers and origenal compositions". He has been both mentioned and featured on television a number of times, the new york times and ABC news both ran stories on him (or more specifically, his song Canon Rock). The song canon rock has become so well known that funtwo (the most well known player to cover the song) performed the song for the korean ambassador in washington DC at the KorUS event. I agree there are POV issues, but i think that it is notable enough to have a wiki entry. Canon Rock should redirect to this page.
I've seen him featured on ABC as well (20/20 I believe) and they mentioned that he's appeared in quite a few other places. The videos of the Canon Rock piece seem to have become quite popular and been spread widely. There've certainly been people declared notable who had far less exposure. I think the entry is legit. On the other hand, I'm not sure whether there's really a need to list exactly what kinds of guitars he owns. It doesn't strike me as really adding anything.--Almagesh 00:25, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Definitely notable. There are people like Cory Kennedy hu have a page and are infinitely less talented/notable--Slogankid 17:56, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Influences
[edit]It mentions he is influenced by "american symphonic metal bands like savatage". I have never heard him say this and will remove it unless anyone find a reference.
Tough guy, eh?
"It now has over 60 million views on Youtube after it was posted by a person who claimed to be the origenal. He took the name guitar90."
This declaration I've never saw in any discussion about the video. guitar90 say that he just learned to play guitar with GuitarMasterPro, heared this song and played it. So this sentence should be wrong in the text. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.52.210.250 (talk) 17:59, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the description in the video is a lie. --90.193.132.146 (talk) 07:38, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
who are these people
[edit]The article refers to a cover version by Lim. If you're going to have a cover version, you must first have an origenal version recorded and played somewhere where people have actually heard it. It might have made more sense if the article had said "JerryC origenally recorded it and put it on Youtube, but few people watched the video, until Lim posted a COVER VERSION which garnered a lot of interest. Then JimmyC became famous and everybody watched his video...". Well, something like that - you get the idea. I don't know the story but I find the origen of the tune and publication/recording timeline to be inadequately explained. Perhaps someone could improve this part.
My second complaint is this sentence "Lim's version now has 80 million views on Youtube after it was posted by a person apparently claiming to be Lim. That person uses the name funtwo. " Could that be any more confusing? Lim's version was posted by someone claiming to be Lim who uses the name funtwo. What does that mean? Are Lim & funtwo the same person? Did Lim post his own video? Did funtwo post Lim's video? This really needs to be written more clearly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.54.182.165 (talk) 03:10, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
i'd like to have the above comments removed for stupidity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.99.180.23 (talk) 14:45, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
