Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HaHstay, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁éh₁s-tor. Cognate with Hittite ēsa, Avestan 𐬃𐬢𐬵𐬁𐬌𐬭𐬈 (ā̊ŋhāire, “they sit”), Ancient Greek ἧσται (hêstai).[1][2][3]
