Talk:Reykjavík

I tried to find out why the primary English-language entry of Reykjavik/Reykjavík is located under the unaccented form. For the record:

• Considering capital cities, the English-language entries of Asunción, Bogotá, Brasília, Chișinău, Lomé, Malé, San José, São Tomé, and Yaoundé are under the accented forms.
• Also, Curaçao, Côte d'Ivoire, Réunion, São Tomé and Príncipe retain their accents in English.
• In Wikipedia, the article Reykjavik was moved to the form Reykjavík back in January 2003 (almost twenty years ago), and it's been there since.
• On the other hand, the primary definition line of this entry was moved to the form Reykjavik in December 2014, without any reason or reference supplied.
• There are currently 111 articles in English terms spelled with Í, including surnames like Dalí and other terms like Bahá'í and Guaraní (let alone São Tomé and Príncipe, mentioned above).

In summary, I see no reason why Reykjavík in particular should be stripped of its accent in English as far as the primary form is concerned. This would be the sole national capital on Earth to be given this treatment. Adam78 (talk) 18:50, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
