[edit]From Middle Dutch crāken, from Old Dutch *krakon, from Proto-West Germanic *krakōn, from Proto-Germanic *krakōną. The sense "to support a sports team or sportsperson" is a semantic loan from Sranan Tongo kraka (“to support (with a wedge)”).
