Are you looking for experience in planning, conducting, and interpreting research in the fields of business, marketing, psychology, economics, management, accounting, and finance? Are you curious about how individuals and business make decisions, and how these decisions influence individual and firm performance? If so, you should consider becoming an Undergraduate Research Assistant in Gatton’s Behavioral Research Lab.

As Undergraduate Research Assistants, students participate in an independent study in the Behavioral Research Lab. Each semester Research Assistants learn and apply a variety of research methods in business and the social sciences. Some of the goals and objectives of this program include:

  • Theory and content: Students will become familiar with major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings and historical trends in consumer research.
  • Research methods: Students will understand and apply basic research methods including research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Critical thinking skills: In the lab, students will use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry and a scientific approach to examine many real-world problems and opportunities.
  • Information and Technological Literacy: Student will demonstrate information competence and the ability to use different research programs and analytical techniques
  • Values in Marketing and Psychology: Student will weigh evidence, tolerate ambiguity, and act ethically and reflect other values underpinning the research being conducted.
  • Career Planning and Development: Emerge from the major with realistic ideas about how to use knowledge, skills, and values in various occupations and in graduate or occupational schools.
