Students in the University of Kentucky Accounting program will develop EEQs throughout their coursework. The EEQs are employability characteristics that are critical skills and qualities for all future professionals to possess in the modern workforce. These skills reflect a need for students to be adaptable, continuously learn, and possess social and emotional intelligence necessary for workforce preparedness and lifelong learning. The EEQs are as follows:

Communication Learning
Thinking & Problem Solving Inquiry
Collaboration Responsibility & Professionalism
Adaptability Ethical

In addition to students taking courses preparing them for public and private accounting, business and industry positions, and jobs within universities and government agencies, students enrolled in the Accounting program will obtain EEQs to prepare for them for 21st century workplace responsibilities.

Essential Employability Qualities

CommunicatorsGraduates can express ideas and information coherently in writing, orally, interpersonally, and in presentations. They participate in discussions by listening actively and responding constructively while demonstrating competence in engaging with others from cultural backgrounds.
Thinkers and Problem SolversGraduates apply critical and creative thinking skills to identify and address complex work-related problems and apply quantitative, financial, data, and technical fluency and demonstrate cultural competence. Graduates demonstrate the ability to understand concepts and perspectives across disciplines and cultures.
InquirersGraduates conduct inquiry and research by reviewing, evaluating, verifying, citing, and applying information and perspectives to address work-based problems both independently and collaboratively.
CollaboratorsGraduates collaborate with others both in person and virtually and seek a range of points of view, are willing to modify their perspectives, and help resolve conflicts where appropriate. They exhibit multicultural competence in working with others.
AdaptableGraduates approach new and uncertain situations with openness. They explore, learn, and apply new roles, ideas, perspectives, approaches, tools, technologies, and strategies to support their effective contributions. Graduates can work effectively across a variety of environments, cultures, and perspectives.
Principled and EthicalGraduates make reasoned, ethical decisions about work-based situations or problems. Graduates act equitably and with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and respect for individuals, groups, and broadly diverse communities.
Responsible and ProfessionalGraduates establish priorities and manage their time to meet the obligations of work assignments with minimal supervision or direction. They carry out their responsibilities consistently, persistently, and reliably. Graduates take responsibility for their actions and the consequences that accompany them.
LearnersGraduates adopt new technologies and strategies for working more effectively, analyzing work-based situations, and making decisions by engaging in formal and informal professional learning opportunities continually and actively apply learning to work.

The EEQs are obtained by students through engagement in coursework, participating in extracurricular activities, engaging with career services, and taking on internships.
