Lexington, KY – The University of Kentucky's Gatton College of Business and Economics proudly hosted its very first Gatton Global Week from September 16-19, 2024, emphasizing its mission to prepare principled leaders for the global economy. The week was packed with events aimed at encouraging students to study abroad and broaden their international experiences, fulfilling Gatton College's commitment to shaping future global business leaders.
Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to engage in educational and interactive events designed to explore the benefits of global experiences in enhancing career opportunities. Highlights included Gatton GlobalFest, which kicked off the week with a festival of free food, music, and an information fair about the college's education abroad programs, and a Global Alumni Panel Luncheon where distinguished Gatton alumni shared their insights into international business careers. The college also hosted many guest speakers in classes throughout the week– 12 guests visited 32 classes to share their experiences.
The week featured talks and panels from Gatton’s accomplished alumni, including:
- Jake Barr, CEO, BlueWorld Supply Chain Consulting
- DC Storm, EVP and CFO, Restaurant Supply Chain Solutions LLC, a Yum! Brand Co-op
- Taylor Amerman, Director, Global Social Impact, CDW
Other distinguished guests included:
- Samuel Raudales, Chief Growth Officer, Valvoline
- Parashar Joshi, Chief Operating Officer, Aymium
- Omar Ayyash, CEO of World Trade Center Kentucky
and many more who shared their global career journeys and expertise.
The week-long celebration culminated in the Gatton Students Abroad Showcase, which allowed students who recently studied abroad to share their transformative experiences. Advisors were also available to guide future study abroad participants on planning and application processes.
Over 2,500 students participated in these events, learning about opportunities to expand their global business knowledge through education abroad. Through Gatton Global Week, students learned just how important international experiences are to their educational and career journey– not just through cross-cultural exposure, but through their resumes, soft skills, and intercultural perspectives.
As part of Global Week, three students – Taylen Kaster (Finance and Marketing), Monica Mayr (Management), and Heather Denny (Management) – were selected in a scholarship drawing to receive $1,000 toward a future education abroad experience.
Gatton Global Week showcased the college’s dedication to growing future leaders who are ready to navigate the complexities of a globalized business landscape. The week’s events provided students with the knowledge and resources to prepare for their own international business endeavors and continues to build on Gatton College’s mission to elevate Kentucky’s economic growth and beyond.
