The University of Kentucky’s Part-Time MBA program provides you with the tools necessary to advance your personal and professional goals, regardless of what they may be. Whether you want to climb the corporate ladder, start your own business, or pivot careers entirely, the UK Part-Time MBA program will guide and assist you.

Our program is designed for you with the express purpose of taking you to the next step. Aspiring MBAs are given the option of attending classes online, in-person, or in whatever combination of the two best suits your needs. With the University of Kentucky’s tight-knit cohort, you will further develop your capabilities while cultivating key connections with fellow students and business professionals.

CURRICULUM

To better accommodate your life and schedule, you may complete the UK Part-Time MBA on the timeline that best suits you. While most applicants choose to finish the program over two or three years, a more flexible timetable is available. This customizable curriculum provides the managerial acumen and strategic thinking skills needed to advance in one’s career, while our electives allow you the freedom to personalize your learning journey further.

At UK, our faculty and staff know how difficult it can be to balance work and education, which is why each course in the program meets just once a week and never on weekends. You can attend classes in person, online, or through a combination.

Leaders in Healthcare candidates can also pursue their Graduate Certificate in Improving Healthcare Value through the College of Public Health.

For candidates pursuing our Entrepreneurship Concentration or our Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics, the following elective courses are required:

  • Entrepreneurship Concentration: MBA 645, 646, 647, and 648 constitute the courses required to earn the Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation Concentration.
  • Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics: MBA 660, AN 624 and AN 650, plus one guided elective course. More information on the Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics can be found here.

The UK Professional MBA will also consider up to 9 credit hours of transfer credit with prior approval from the Director of Graduate Studies.

ONLINE OPTION Learning that works for you.

At UK, our student’s sense of community is paramount, and we believe convenience and connection should coexist. Aspiring Part-Time MBAs are given the option of attending classes online or in person. You may choose whatever combination of the two works best. Likewise, you retain the right to change how you attend classes at any time, for any reason. This allows for a more tailored learning experience that better suits your needs.

While courses are taught in a traditional classroom setting, they are simultaneously streamed live. As such, all benefits of the UK’s Part-Time MBA program can be accessed and utilized online as they occur in person. This allows you to participate In classroom discussions and activities fully, ensuring you develop connections with faculty and fellow students. It also provides aspiring MBAs with a level of accountability not found in programs that employ rigid, pre-recorded sessions.

Here are the steps to apply.

1. Application

Complete an online application and submit the application fee. An application is considered complete/ready for review once all supporting documents have been received by the University of Kentucky Graduate School.


2. Documentation

  • Resume or CV
  • Undergraduate transcripts: Upload digital copies of your unofficial test scores and transcripts from all universities attended using the online application. Minimum undergraduate GPA requirement is 2.75 (out of 4.0)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (Note: One Letter should be from a current or former employer)
  • Personal Statement:Please write a brief essay (500-700 words) that address the following questions: Considering your professional goals, why are you pursuing an MBA? Why do you believe the University of Kentucky's MBA program is a good fit for you? What do you perceive to be your unique strengths that will help you succeed in our program as well as professionally in your career.

**Please note, there may be additional items on the Graduate School Application such as a 'Professional Writing Sample', that is NOT required for your MBA application. If you have questions, please email jacob.westover@uky.edu.

International candidates: Learn more about additional requirements:

  • English Proficiency waivers can be offered to candidates who earned their bachelors' degrees from other U.S. universities and/or institutions that will document that all of their instruction was in English.
  • Minimum TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5. The TOEFL Institution Code for the UK Graduate School is 1837.

International candidates in the program must take at least nine credit hours per semester in order to maintain the full-time student status. Candidates may apply for a reduced course load the last semester.

3. Entrance Exam

We do not require standardized test scores as part of our application for our Part-Time MBA program. We believe our candidates’ previous professional accomplishments, as well as previous academic performance, are the strongest indicators of our candidates’ ability to be successful in our Part-Time MBA program. If you believe the entrance exam, GRE or GMAT, will strengthen your application, you may voluntarily provide your test information in your application.

Deadline notes:

  1. A completed application file must be submitted no later than the stated deadline.
  2. Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis, meaning our admissions committee reviews and makes decision on completed application files on a weekly basis
  3. Admissions decisions will typically be made within three weeks after the admissions committee has received the completed application
  4. Priority rounds 1 and 2 increase likelihood of acceptance based on seat availability.

Note: Applicants are admitted on a rolling basis. Priority admission and scholarships are based on those who apply early.

Preparatory Training

Once admitted into the MBA program, all incoming MBA candidates are required to successfully complete MBA Math and an Economics tutorial training to prepare for our program. The cost for MBA Math is $105 per candidate and takes approximately thirty hours to complete. The training for Economics is free and takes less than 10 hours to complete.

We understand that every student has unique needs and is on their own timeline. As such, the Part-Time MBA can be completed over two or three years to fit each student’s requirements better. Our MBA team will gladly accommodate students who require more time.

Students can find tuition refund policies, deadlines, amounts, and other important information on the Student Account Services website.


Items to Note

  • To reserve your spot in the program a non-refundable $500 deposit is required and will be applied to the first semester’s tuition.
  • Your tuition will not increase while continuously enrolled, however mandatory fees are subject to change.
  • If electing our online option, a distance learning fee of $10/credit hour will be applied.
  • Course materials will cost approximately $2,500 over the course of the program.
  • Specifics regarding determination of residency status are available from the UK Registrar’s Office Residency Policy.
  • Any student taking exclusively fully online courses will be charged the applicable resident tuition rate regardless of residency status.

Workshops and Certificate Programs

Each year, candidates are given the opportunity to participate in two certification programs, allowing them to differentiate themselves in the workplace further. These include:

  • Cultural Awareness for Global Business Workshop - This workshop program is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to understand, work and flourish in and with cultures other than their own. Whether it be collaborating with peers, managing others, or leading groups, cultural awareness is becoming an increasingly important trait in the workforce.
  • Project Management Workshop – This workshop program provides participants with working knowledge of Project Management and Agile Management practices. Participants will gain an understanding of what project management is in general, waterfall concepts, agile concepts, terms, tools, and techniques to manage projects effectively.
