History

Pierre Antoine Baptiste René Lafitte (1872-1938) was an enterprising Parisian magazine publisher in the early 20th century. It was a time when illustrated magazines were starting everywere- Hearst's titles in the US, and Hachette's La Vie heureuse (a women's magazine) in France in 1902. Lafitte founded illustrated titles such as La vie au grand air (sports, 1897), Album Musica (musical scores, 1902), Femina (women's, 1903) and Excelsior (general news, 1910). He is most famous for publishing cheap editions of the Arsene Lupin stories from 1905.
