Student Complaints/Suggestions

The University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law in Lexington, Kentucky, is accredited by the American Bar Association and subject to the ABA Standards for Approval of Law Schools. ABA Standard 510 can be found here

 

Submitting a Complaint

All complaints must be submitted in writing to the Senior Assistant Dean of Community Engagement and Operations via the Web-based Student Complaint/Suggestion Form below or the PDF Student Complaint/Suggestion Form (which must be sent via email, U.S. Mail, or fax). Concerns about ABA Standards will be communicated as appropriate to the ABA.

The complaint must meet the following requirements:

  • Explain in detail the behavior, program, process, or other matter that is at issue, and describe how the matter directly implicates the law school’s program of legal education and its compliance with a specific, identified ABA Standard.
  • Contain the student’s name, student ID#, law school email address, and current mailing address.

     

Resolving a Complaint

Within 10 business days after a complaint from a student is received, the Senior Assistant Dean of Community Engagement and Operations, or the Assistant Dean’s designee, will advise the student in writing of any action the College of Law is taking to address the matter. If further investigation is needed, the student will be provided with a response to the complaint within 10 business days after completion of the investigation. 

 

Appeal Process

A student may appeal a decision on a complaint within 10 business days from the date of the response by the Senior Assistant Dean of Community Engagement and Operations. Any appeal will be brought before the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Any appeal from the decision of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs will be brought before the Dean of the Rosenberg College of Law. The Dean’s decision is final. 

 

Keeping a Record of Complaints

The Senior Assistant Dean of Community Engagement and Operations will keep a record of the Standard 510 complaints and resolutions for ten years from the date of final resolution of the complaint/suggestion. 

 

Suggestions Unrelated to ABA Standards 

Students may also submit suggestions unrelated to ABA Standards utilizing the following form, using the suggestion box located in the Law Library circulation desk area, or by contacting the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs or Senior Assistant Dean of Community Engagement and Operations.
