FSFE: Italy puts Free Software first in public sector

The Free Software Foundation Europe notes that the Italian government has made Free Software the default choice for public administrations. "In a document published last Wednesday, the Italian Digital Agency issued rules saying that all government organisations in the country must consider using Free Software before buying licenses for proprietary programs."

Jolla Review: Some Rough Edges, But This Linux Smartphone Shows Promise (Forbes)

Forbes has a review of the Jolla handset. "So the first point to note from this review should be clear, but let me stress it. The Jolla handset is a work in progress. Do not buy this handset if you are looking for something that ‘just works’. It’s not yet a platform that can return Finland to the top of the smartphone sales chart. But it is a handset that Finland should be proud of. It has shipped, it broadly works, and there is a feeling that Jolla the company is constantly at work to improve their handset every day."

openSUSE Conference 2014

openSUSE Conference 2014 (oSC14) will take place April 24-28 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. This year, the theme is: "The Strength to Change". "Change has been a constant in Free Software. With the rise of mobile devices and the associated operating systems like Android and Chromebooks, we have to adopt as a project. We discussed strategy again on our mailing lists and by the time of the conference, we can hopefully all talk together and come to some conclusions. Change is never easy, but it is important!"
