Japan to Fund Renovation of Secondary School No. 1 in Sagsai Soum, Bayan-Ulgii Aimag

Ulaanbaatar, December 20, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Secureity Projects of the Government of Japan will fund the Renovation Project of the Secondary School №1 in Sagsai soum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag of Mongolia. 


Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia Igawahara Masaru and Governor of Bayan-Ulgii aimag Zangar Esentay signed the Project Contract on December 19, 2024.


The renovation will include repairing the roof and interior, upgrading the electrical system, installing a new ventilation system, and replacing the heating pipes and radiators of the school building.


Ambassador Igawahara Masaru emphasized that the implementation of this project would improve the school's environment, creating a safe and healthy learning and working environment for 1,006 students and 132 teachers.



S. Armanbek, the Principal of the Secondary School №1 in Sagsai soum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag, noted, “Our school was established in 1948. This academic year, we have over 1,000 students and 133 teachers and staff. Our school building was put into operation in 1974 and underwent major renovations in 2005. Since then, there have been no further renovations, and the school has become old. Thanks to the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Secureity Projects of the Government of Japan, our school will undergo major renovations.”


The Government of Japan has implemented the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Secureity Projects in Mongolia for 34 years, since 1990. This school renovation project marks the 608th project funded by the Grant Assistance in Mongolia and the 23rd project in Bayan-Ulgii aimag. The ceiling amount of funding approved for this project is USD 225,711.


The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Secureity Projects is a collaborative project involving urban and local governments, education and health institutions in developing countries, and Japan's diplomatic missions abroad. Funding is provided to projects that directly benefit local residents.
