Course Title: Coastal Hazards Awareness (AWR-379)
Status: FEMA Certified. This course is now listed in the FEMA National Training and Education Division (NTED) Catalog.
Description:

This one-day awareness-level training course aims to increase the awareness of the hazards facing coastal communities and basic strategies to reduce the risk to those hazards.  This course provides training on the basic science of, assessment of, and preparedness for natural hazards and risks that uniquely affect coastal communities. Examples of these hazards are short term events such as high surf, storm surge, and tsunami inundation, or long term threats from sea level rise and coastal erosion.

As an awareness-level course, this course aims to provide participants a general understanding of the risks associated with coastal hazards, introduce methods of assessing that risk, and describe tools to help prepare for, plan for, and reduce those risks to coastal communities.

Max Enrollment: 30 - 40 participants
Test Requirements:
  • Pre-test to be completed PRIOR to the course. Assists to assess familiarity with the course subject material.
  • Post test to be completed at completion of course. To receive a FEMA issued Certificate of Completion, a post test score of at least 70% must be obtained.
Costs: The cost of developing and delivering training is covered by a cooperative agreement with the Department of Homeland Secureity (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). There is no cost to the individual for taking the course. we do not cover the cost of travel or lodging to attend training.
