Leading the Way

We offer a ground-breaking and iterative approach to content delivery, which adopts holistic, modular, student-centric training. The 4-year PharmD program prepares students to think critically and work as a part of a team, helping them make a lasting impact on the communities and people they serve.

Highlights

iPad Delivery System

We provide an iPad to each student upon their arrival, which they keep upon successful graduation from our program. The iPad enables off-loaded content for classes, paperless testing and note-taking, auto-push of notifications, and material and video capture. The iPad Initiative was started in 2016 to provide a common computing platform for our students.

IPPE- Longitudinal (formerly LEEP)

IPPE- Longitudinal (formerly LEEP) is a component of experiential education that immerses students in pharmacy practice from day one. Instead of dedicated summer hours, a portion of required practice hours happens during the academic year, initiated by the student with a dedicated preceptor.

Outcomes

Our licensure exam pass rates are consistently higher than the national average, and currently, 12 UKCOP alumni serve as deans of other colleges of pharmacy.

PaCE

Patient-Centered Care Experience (PaCE) Laboratory utilizes a near-peer learning model and pairs first, second, and third-year pharmacy students into concurrent weekly lab sessions with intermittent experiential education. This approach allows students to learn from each other in a team-based atmosphere that mirrors tiered practice settings.

Community Service Learning

Community Service Learning (CSL), an entrepreneurial component of PaCE, is the first of its kind. Under the supervision of a faculty mentor, students collaborate with a non-profit community partner for six semesters. They conduct a needs assessment, develop a health-based business plan, implement their plan, and then report back on outcomes.

Points of Pride

Unique aspects of our curriculum also include classes on Differential Diagnosis in Primary Care, Clinical Reasoning, Scholarship, as well as four dual degree options.

Coursework

The practice of pharmacy is evolving, and so is our approach to teaching and learning. Our blended learning approach gives students more responsibility for and control over their education. Our curriculum emphasizes collaboration, communication, student autonomy, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Students spend less time in lectures and more time applying what they’ve learned to solve real-life complex healthcare problems.

Experiential Education

Our Office of External Studies coordinates the pharmacy practice experiential components of the curriculum. The program begins early in a student's professional training and continues through their final year. The goal of the External Studies Program is to assist students in developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of a competent and caring pharmacy professional.
