Veterans

“As a member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I hear both about the resilience and perseverance of veterans and about the trauma and the pain they have endured. I’ve seen how critical it is for veterans and the families of veterans to receive the full benefits our nation promised them and that they have earned. I am committed to listening to them and removing the barriers our veterans experience that keep them from a healthy and thriving life.”

Congresswoman Ramirez believes that those who have served our country deserve full access to the resources and benefits that will enable them to successfully transition into civilian life including access to education, housing, employment, and benefits. That is why the first bill Ramirez introduced in Congress was H.R. 1767, the Student Veteran Benefit Restoration Act to help defrauded veterans regain access to their benefits. Ramirez is also the sponsor of the Servicemember Student Loan Affordability Act of 2024. In committee and out, Congresswoman Ramirez is committed to centering Veterans and their experiences and making sure there are effective programs and robust support available to them post-service.

Congresswoman Ramirez is committed to amplifying the voices of veterans in her district and ensuring veterans get access to the benefits promised to them. Whether a veteran elects to receive care from the Veterans Health Administration or through community care—Ramirez believes no veteran should worry about whether they will be able to access high-quality care. Ramirez advocates for systems that effectively serve our country’s veterans and pushes for solutions to address healthcare challenges veterans continue to face. That is why Ramirez co-led the introduction of H.R. 3735, the Expanding Health Care Providers for Veterans Act.

Having run a shelter for unhoused people, Congresswoman Ramirez knows the challenges people experiencing homelessness face and believes that no veteran should ever be unhoused. Ramirez supports legislation that would expand resources and support so that every veteran has access to permanent, stable, dignified housing. Ramirez co-sponsor several bills that would expand access to housing for veterans, including the Return Home to Housing Act and the End Veteran Homelessness Act of 2024.

Congresswoman Ramirez understands the diversity present within our veteran communities and is clear that ALL our veterans deserve equity in the care they receive and access to the benefits they are entitled to. As a member of the DAMA subcommittee, Congresswoman Ramirez is committed to working with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to ensure that no veteran is left behind. Ramirez is also a strong advocate for gender-affirming and reproductive healthcare for veterans and servicemembers who have experienced Military Sexual Trauma (MST). The Congresswoman firmly believes that it is unconscionable that those who have served our country are deported or are at risk of deportation. That is why Ramirez cosponsors H.R. 4569, the Veteran Service Recognition Act, to address naturalization, establish a review process for those who are in removal proceedings, and provide noncitizen veterans who have been removed to obtain legal permanent resident status.
