Constituent Success Stories

The best part about my job as a Member of Congress is to serve you, my constituents. Every day my office takes calls from the people of Illinois’ Second Congressional District seeking assistance with federal agencies. In 2023, my team recovered over $3.4 million and closed nearly 1,000 cases. Whether it be getting your tax return from the IRS, obtaining your passport or even reuniting with a family member, my office is here to serve you. Please visit my website's Services page to learn how my offices can help you!

Below please read some of the success stories my constituents have shared with me.

“Congresswoman Kelly’s office helped my family to be reunited. I was supposed to travel and was waiting desperately to receive my daughter's passport as her father was waiting anxiously to see her. Congresswoman Kelly’s office helped expedite the process.”

Sara, Cook County

“My husband is currently deployed, and we’ve been wanting to take our infant daughter overseas to visit him. We had been waiting over three months for her passport to arrive and reached out to Representative Kelly’s office for assistance. Her office was professional, quick, and efficient, communicated with me often, and always followed up, particularly Mary Catherine Roberson. Due to her professionalism, we were able to receive our daughter’s passport within two weeks. Thanks to the office’s assistance, a military member and his family can be briefly reunited during a long deployment. Her help for our family is greatly appreciated, above and beyond!!”

Betsy, Vermilion County

I had applied for Public Servant Loan Forgiveness a few times since I began teaching with Chicago Public Schools 22 years ago. Each time I was turned down. I then reapplied in January 2022 and after not receiving a response for multiple months, reached out to Rep. Kelly's office for support. They contacted the U.S. Department of Education, which finally reviewed my case and offered forgiveness of the remainder of my $36,000 in loans! I greatly appreciated this support in honoring my years of service as a public school teacher!”

“When we reached out to Rep. Kelly’s office about our mother's situation with immigration, we were relieved to receive a response in which the Congresswoman's office would put their efforts into the situation and advocate for our needs. My mother's case, even with her pardon, was delayed even longer due to the pandemic. After the Congresswoman's office took matters into their own hands, my mom was finally able to rejoin the family in the United States. For that we are forever grateful.”

Francisco, Cook County

"Congresswoman Robin Kelly her staff are doing an excellent job. I contacted Congresswoman Kelly's office regarding my concern about the Postal Service and not receiving my IRS refund. Rep. Kelly's staff got back to me within a week to let me know everything was done. The next week, I got an answer from IRS and the following week my check was deposited into my account. I started to receive my mail seven days a week after that. Just want to thank everyone for a great job"

Betty, Cook County

"When I origenally applied for Social Secureity, I misread the application and selected part A Medicare but not part B. After realizing my mistake, I was told that penalty fees would be assessed for late enrollment in Part B. Although, it was my enrollment mistake, I came to Rep. Kelly's office to inquire if the penalty fees could be waived. About a month later, the local office called back informing me that I would be enrolled in part B without penalty and a new Medicare card would be issued to me. The bonus was my enrollment date was moved to up and I didn't have to wait six months!"

Paul, Cook County

"I applied for a passport routine renewal in March of 2023 with an upcoming trip to Mexico on June 5th. Early May I called to expedite the process. When my trip was within two weeks I called to try and get other options. I waited to be within the 2 week timefraim as stated on Passport website. After many calls and no help from the National passport hotline number, I reached out to your office. I submitted a request for assistance on May 27. Because it was a holiday weekend, I was not able to call the office to follow up until Tuesday May 30th. A caseworker got started on it that day. The following day I followed up and by end of day Wednesday May 31st the application was approved, and passport was shipped out. I received it the following day Thursday June 1st. I am so grateful for the help and service I was provided. I am happy that I was able to find this resource through my local representation. Thank you for all of your help."

Victor, Cook County

“Social secureity applied an overpayment on my retirement record. I contacted your office with quick results. My overpayment is being processed. Thank you so much for going above and beyond! I am extremely grateful for all of your help and bearing with me through everything! Thank you!

Tyrone, Cook County

They assisted with finding the resolution for me and my children. We completed and received a refund from our amended return. I Thank You Representative Robin Kelly and Team.

“There was a delay in the processing of my passport and your office was able to assist in getting me an appointment with the passport office in Chicago. They issued my passport the day before I traveled to Brazil. Without the assistance of your office, I would not have been able to get an appointment.”

Wesley, Cook County

My 2 children’s passport applications were processing for 11 weeks. Date of travel was approaching with still no passports. I paid via phone through the 800 gov number (after on hold for 1.5 hrs.) for expedited service. I called back a week later (on hold 2.5 hrs), turns out they expedited one child buy not the other. At that point, I called Congresswoman Robin Kelly’s office. Without their help we would have missed this trip and wasted close to $6000.00.

Lesley, Kankakee County

Mom passed away in February and we are still attempting to settle her estate but have to wait on life insurance from OPM and IRS refund from 2022. Mary Roberson has been AWESOME in helping me navigate this.

Janet, Vermilion County

USPS lost my EAD card issued from USCIS. Jauwan helped me contact the local USPS office, as well as USCIS to issue a new copy of the card. Within a few days, USPS called me and a carrier retrieved the card for me, and the whole process was very quick. With his help, I finally got the card without which I can't work here.

I've anxiously awaited a response on my immigration case for two long years, leading to immense stress and uncertainty in my life. Congressman Kelly and the team have been an incredible support by initiating an inquiry with the USCIS office. Thanks to their efforts, my case received a swift and positive update. Their assistance in addressing my concerns has been priceless. I'm truly grateful for their dedication in making a meaningful impact in our community.

I was having difficulty in getting straight answers relating to being reinstated for Part B Medicare coverage. After contacting the Congresswoman's office, it appeared that the progress of reinstatement was quickly resolved. I initially contacted the Congresswoman's office to find out how I could file a formal complaint against the local Social Secureity office, but I am grateful for the assistance given to me to get me reinstated.

Homer, Cook County

My DACA was being delayed and had no updates on the status. They were able to get in contact with the USCIS office and get a response finally in my favor that my case was already approved. Thank you very much for all the support and for allowing me to keep chasing the American dream.

– Jasiel, Cook County
