John Starling (March 26, 1940 – May 2, 2019) was an American Bluegrass musician and composer. He was a founding member of the bluegrass group The Seldom Scene. He also had a medical profession as an otolaryngologist. Starling was born in Durham, North Carolina. He retired in 2007. In 1992, he won a Grammy Award.[1]

On February 12, 2019, Starling was reported to be "seriously ill" and living in hospice care.[2] He died of congestive heart failure on May 2, 2019 at his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was 79.[3]
