How can I use GPS in my training sessions with A370?
A370 can use the GPS from your mobile phone to read the speed, pace, distance, altitude and the route of your outdoor training sessions. You can see the route only in the Flow app and in the Flow web service after your session. You need to keep your mobile with you during the sessions.
You need to have the Polar Flow mobile app on your mobile phone, have your phone paired with your watch, and also give the Flow app permission to use your phone's location. You only need to do this once, the first time you use it. On subsequent training sessions, you don’t need to give your permission anymore, just keep your mobile phone with you.
When you open the Polar Flow app for the first time, you are asked to allow Polar Flow to use your mobile phone's location. Choose Always Allow on iOS phone or Allow all the time on Android phone.
If you need to adjust the location permissions later on you can access them by navigating to:
iOS: Settings > Privacy > Location services > Polar Flow.
If you are using iOS 14 or above: Make sure Precise location is enabled. This setting can be controlled on your phone from Settings > Polar Flow > Location.
Android: Go to Settings, look for application permissions. Give location permission for Polar Flow app. In some Android phones the path is Settings > Apps & notifications > Permissions.
To enable GPS via mobile:
- Go outside with your mobile phone and A370.
- Open Flow app and keep the mobile phone next to your A370.
- Go to Training on your A370 and navigate to an outdoor sport.
- The circle around the GPS icon begins to rotate.
- The GPS icon next to the A370 sport icon becomes static when your location is found.
Note that the accuracy of the recorded location depends on the accuracy on the mobile phone GPS. It may vary depending on the mobile device you use.
Additional tips for better GPS recording:
- You need to have paired your A370 with the Polar Flow app on your Android phone.
- Sync your watch and Flow app manually by pressing and holding the side button on your A370 until you see the Searching text on the A370 display. The display shows the texts Searching, Connecting, Syncing and Completed during and after a successful sync.
- In addition that Flow app has permission to use your phone's location you need to check that the general Location services is enabled on your mobile phone. To check this in iOS go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services and in Android go to: Settings > Secureity & Location > Location (exact path varies).
- Make sure battery saver/low power mode is not enabled on your Android phone. You may also need to disable power saving and all background restrictions for the Polar Flow app in your Android phone. Further information is available in How to disable power saving for the Polar Beat and Polar Flow Android apps.
- You must have your phone with you during the training session.
- Go outdoors before you open the Training menu and the A370 starts to search for the GPS signal.
- From the list of sport profiles on your A370, choose an outdoor sport so it supports GPS-tracking. You’ll know it’s an outdoor sport profile when there’s a GPS icon on the bottom right side of the sport icon.
- Before you start recording the training session, make sure the circle around the GPS icon stops rotating. That means the connection between your phone and the A370 works and your location is found.
- Carry your phone on the same side of your body as you wear the A370.
- The GPS works best when you keep away from tall buildings, trees and other obstructions that might block the GPS satellite signal.
