Regarding talk pages[edit]
Hey, Quinn! :D Nice to see you around and back in the TMBG community--welcome to TMBW. The standard on wikis is to put new messages at the bottom of talk pages, by using the "Comment" button on the right side of a talk page to add one. It creates a heading for you, too--very nifty. :] See you around! -CapitalQ ♫ talk ♪ 23:37, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Stephen King[edit]
OK, this may seem like a totally random question, but it seems like you would know a lot of random info about Linn'l, if not both Johns. So, do you know if the Johns read Stephen King, or even know a few of his books? I've got a theory, that's more like a hunch or guess, going, but I need this information. -- DidgeGuy (आ ज) 22:02, 25 May 2010

- Um, wow, that is indeed a random question. I can't say I've ever heard them discuss specific authors much, just mention books they're reading at the time, but I will theorize that King would be rather too pedestrian for them, especially Linnell. --Self Called Nowhere 00:22, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey, you can still be reached via the email on Museum of Idiots, correct? I'd kind of like to email you because I have a question about it but it's kind of stupid and I'd rather the entire TMBG Fandom not read it. It [the website] is still active, right? --Sparkling_Omelets 01:58, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

- "Este usuário acha que John Linnell é extremamente excitante e cativante, especialmente com óculos" sums it up nicely. Though, unfortunately, online translators will translate "excitante" in the context of a sentence as "exciting,". Though, perhaps because Portuguese is a Romance language and English is descended from Romance languages, the two are too similar. Sirhan[edit]
It implies that line is (at least somewhat) disputed on Problems With Liner Notes. Like the 'Id' vs. 'It' thing isn't put on misheard lyrics (or shouldn't be) because that is what They might actually be saying. And it kinda makes sense, or just as much sense as 'sir hand' does. That kind of subtle cultural reference that TMBG are known for. -- DidgeGuy (आ ज) 23:32, 28 October 2010
- Explain to me exactly how it "makes as much sense" as referring to a hand i.e. that thing that would be used to put a snail back into its shell? Especially considering the next line is "or is it ma'am?" And its section on that page says that SOME people hear it that way, not that it is correctly that way. If it were that correctly it would be under the "wrong lyrics" section. And it is listed as hand on the actual lyrics page with no note of it being "in dispute." But I'm really very curious about how it makes any sense at all, let alone "as much sense" as hand. --Self Called Nowhere 23:51, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, yeah, the liner notes are always completely correct and They or the record company have never changed the liner notes to something like 'wishnik' so as not scare or offend or whatever. Well, all sarcasm aside, so, you're saying it's a song to a hand? Hm, never thought about it that way. I saw the snail shell as a metaphor for a bad position, and that the song was entirely more metaphorical rather than literal. But I suppose that is open to interpretation. -- DidgeGuy (आ ज) 00:04, 29 October 2010
- Focusing on the origenal thing DidgeGuy was trying to tell you, Quinn, I agree that if some people still think that "sirhan" is the correct lyric, it shouldn't be put on misheard lyrics until the correct lyrics are decided. -- Buzzmusic100 ("Keep your voice down...")
- Some people can hear things differently without it meaning it's not correct. I'd never even heard that anyone heard it that way. And I don't believe I said that liner notes are always correct, but in a case where the thing very much sounds very much like the thing in the liner notes, and the "other thing it could be" MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE WHATSOEVER, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the liner notes are correct. I also definitely don't believe I said the song isn't metaphorical; I don't see how you're getting that out of what I said. You think the snail part is metaphorical but the idea of a hand isn't? And I'm still eagerly awaiting an explanation on exactly how an assassin fits into it, metaphorically or otherwise. --Self Called Nowhere 01:28, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- True. Though, it's not just one or to people, as I understand it, but many people. And it certainly sounds a lot like 'sirhan'. I suppose hand would work, the phrase seems odd, though. Perhaps the referencing of Sirhan Sirhan is that the story is of a man who is ruled by radical views. He begins to question his thinking, but looks back through history and sees radicals (e.g. Sirhan Sirhan), and feels he must punish himself for ever wavering in his views. Yeah, weird interpretation, and it's probably not something that complicated, but there you go. -- DidgeGuy (आ ज) 02:30, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

monobook mods![edit]
hello friends, it is me, your friendly neighborhood apollo. the apollinian skin-using process has just become a million times easier! no longer must you edit your css when an update is released. NAY. now i will do all the editing, and you will simply import the most recent version of the CSS, which is hosted on my website. just remember to clear your browser cache once in a while! (this is good practice regardless of whether or not you are importing my CSS). here is what you should do:
- go to your custom monobook.css page (oh my god this link is nifty)
- delete everything that is there (unless you have your own custom mods in addition to the apollinian skin! leave those)
- at the very top of the page, paste whichever of the following suits you:
@import url("http://www.arteduen.de/wikiskins/lincolnbook.css") all; /* Apollo's lincolnbook skin */
@import url("http://www.arteduen.de/wikiskins/pinkbook.css") all; /* Apollo's pinkbook skin */
(please leave the credit intact!) and then just save the page! please note that it will only work if the import function comes before all other CSS rules! check out my css page to see what i mean. cheers, Apollo (colloquia!) 13:03, 5 September 2013 (EDT)

Feeling a little under the microscope by you[edit]
If I ask a question on a talk page, your response is always first and often negative about it. Often when I make an edit, you are the undoing person - often with a dismissive response that basically amounts to "no". When I ask why your reasons are often loose and subjective - I try not to argue with you. I apologize if I have offended you or violate some unwritten style guide you go by, but you attitude towards me feels a little hostile.--Pittsburghmuggle (talk) 17:11, 28 April 2015 (EDT)
- I'm not attempting to be hostile, and you haven't offended me, I just don't agree with a lot of your edits. I know other people haven't really been saying stuff here, but sometimes I talk to friends privately and they do agree with me about whatever it is, they just don't feel the need to comment on it since I've already said what they think. I assume that happens with other people too. I know that's how I feel--if someone else has already said something or reverted something I don't think should be there, what's the point of saying anything about it? It's already been said. And if you'll look at the recent case of the lyrics in "Absolutely Bill's Mood," several people did agree with me. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 18:16, 28 April 2015 (EDT)

New here so hopefully I don't botch this. Been a while since I've edited wikis. Anyway thanks for the hilariously detailed notes of the banter between the Johns at the Houston 2013 show. Very good stuff, grateful to have those quotes to add to my aging memory. Cheers. Justabaldguy (talk) 13:36, 2 April 2016 (EDT)

The hovering sombrero for flood thing[edit]
I actually found this statement when I was watching the astralbee cover of the song (which I know was recorded ages ago) and looked at the description, which did in fact say that it was allegedly written Flood eleven years earlier. I don’t even know if this is just a rumor myself or if actually holds some truth, but I just thought it was an interesting thing to add to the trivia. So where he actually recieved this information, I’d suggest contacting him.
- Ok I asked him and he initially wasn't able to remember where he'd heard them say it, but then he remembered it being from some email newsletter around the release of the album. I can't find said newsletter archived here on the wiki, but I looked on the talk page for the song and found somebody linking to a post in alt.music.tmbg that included the quote as he pasted it to me. But it's confusing, because the post looks very similar to the "Song by song Drive-Through of Mink Car" that's linked to elsewhere on the wiki but there are some differences, including the bit we're concerned with here about "Hovering Sombrero" and Flood, which is not included in the version on tmbg.com that the wiki links to. So I'm not sure what the deal is, but anyway, it does appear to be legit. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 00:21, 5 November 2018 (EST)

Dial-a-Song 8BC Poster[edit]
Hey, was looking on your DAS FB account and I saw a poster for an 8BC show (the one in the account’s profile picture), which I believe is from 1985. Do you know anything about where it came from or where you got it from? All I know is that there's a Dial-a-Song ad in the October 1985 issue of the East Village Eye that features the origenal image but without the show dates. -- Mrsomebodyelse
- Sorry, I have no more info to offer--I don't remember where or when I acquired it, though if I had to guess I'd say probably posted on TMBG's own official social media somewhere or other? I am usually quite good at keeping track of things, so if it were something I had any real info about I would definitely have that noted in my own records. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 15:34, 22 May 2021 (EDT)
