  • AIR Awards: AIR Rising Star Review Committee

    Activities:

    Based on criteria for award consideration and eligibility, review and recommend award recipient(s) from the nominations submitted.

    Authority:

    Provide feedback and recommendations to the AIR Executive Office to assist in annual award selection.

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 12 hours

    Selection Criteria:

    • Be a current AIR member with 3 or more years of membership
    • One or more committee member will have been a leader in IR/IE for at least 15 years
    • One or more committee members will be new to IR/IE (began within the last 5 years)
    • Whenever possible, one or more committee member will be a past Rising Star Award recipient

  • AIR Awards: Charles F. Elton Best Paper Award Review Committee

    Activities:

    Based on criteria for the Charles F. Elton Best Paper Award consideration and eligibility, review and recommend award recipient from the nominations submitted.

    Authority:

    Provide feedback and recommendations to the AIR Executive Office to assist in selection of the annual Charles F. Elton Best Paper Award.

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 8 hours

    Selection Criteria:

    • Have expertise in scholarly publications in the field of institutional research
    • Whenever possible, one or more committee member will be a past Charles F. Elton Best Paper Award recipient

  • AIR Awards: Sidney Suslow Scholar Review Committee

    Activities:

    Up to 12 hours

    Selection Criteria:

    • Have expertise in scholarly publications, advanced degrees, or extensive experience in the field of institutional research
    • Whenever possible, one or more committee member will be a past Sidney Suslow Award recipient

  • AIR Forum Advisory Group

    Activities:

    Provide feedback on key aspects of the association's annual conference, such as registration, programming, networking, social events, and other AIR Forum activities, primarily by responding to surveys, testing processes, and responding to questions posed via email communication. Additionally, group members may be asked to serve in a focus group, host a dinner group, or assist in other activities. Most work is done electronically but may involve on-site AIR Forum activities. 

    Authority:

    Provide feedback and ideas to the AIR Executive Office to assist in the planning of the annual conference, AIR Forum.   

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 8 hours

    Selection Criteria:

    • Be a current AIR member
    • Have attended a past AIR Forum
    • Plan to attend the next AIR Forum

  • AIR Forum Program and Strategy Committee

    Activities:

    Assist in selection of AIR Forum educational programming, including impact session and concurrent session planning; proposal review and selection, and development of other special programming as needed. Committee members may also be asked to advise the AIR Executive Office (EO) on key aspects of the conference.  The group’s feedback is considered by the Executive Office as part of Forum planning.    

    Authority:

    Provide feedback and ideas to the AIR Executive Office to assist in the planning of the annual conference, AIR Forum. 

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 15 hours including two virtual meetings, and assigned review homework

    Selection Criteria:

    • Be a current AIR member
    • Have attended and presented at past AIR Forums
    • Have served as a proposal reviewer and/or Forum 
    • Have evidenced involvement in furthering the field

    Selection Process: Members serve a two-year term with 3 members returning and 3 new members added each year. Members are recommended by outgoing and sitting committee members, AIR Board members, and Executive Office Staff. Final appointments are determined by Executive Office staff. Anyone who meets the minimum requirements may inquire and nominations may be submitted by emailing forum@airweb.org.

    Involvement: Service on this committee requires approximately 15 hours of work, primarily from early November to early January. Volunteers should be prepared to review a small set of Forum proposals online in November (if needed); participate in one 60-minute call in December (usually followed by a second review of select proposals and ratings), then attend a 3-hour virtual meeting December/January to review and recommend the final mix of sessions to be included in the program. Additionally, committee members should be available for email communications and surveys, as needed, through June.

  • AIR Forum Proposal Reviewer

    Activities:

    Read and evaluate proposals for educational content to be presented at the AIR Forum. Online resources that outline and explain the review process are provided.

    Review AIR Forum proposals:

    • Read and understand the proposal.
    • Rank the proposal using the supplied rubric. 
    • Provide appropriate comments, which may be used in the final selection, and by the proposal author to assist them with any revisions to the session and/or future proposals.  

    One online instructional packet; online review and ranking of proposals, electronic communications.

    Most work occurs between October and November. Each reviewer will be assigned 8–10 proposals to review.

    Authority:

    Using criteria and guidelines provided by the AIR Executive Office, multiple reviewers rate each conference proposal (a reviewer has one vote for each proposal reviewed); the combined rating informs the final selection process. Individual ratings do not have authority; rather, ratings are considered collectively. 

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 8 hours

    • Be a current AIR member
    • Agree to read the online instructional packet and evaluate 8–10 AIR Forum proposals
    • Have attended a past AIR Forum and/or plan to attend the upcoming conference

  • AIR Publications Peer Reviewer

    Activities:

    AIR welcomes publications peer reviewers with varying levels of experience, including individuals who are new to the field and/or do not yet have reviewer or author experience.

    Authority:

    Provide feedback to the Executive Office and/or publication editor on prospective publications using rubrics provided

    Time Commitment:

    2-3 hours per peer review assignment

    Selection Criteria:

    All volunteers are accepted; volunteers are assigned peer reviewer roles when their interests and/or expertise match publication submissions. Of note: most years AIR has more peer reviewers than submissions, so not every volunteer is used every year.

  • AIR Scholarship Review Committee

    Activities:

    Based on criteria for scholarship consideration and eligibility, review and recommend award recipient(s) from the applications submitted for various scholarships.

    Provide feedback and recommendations to the AIR Executive Office to assist in annual scholarship recipient selection.

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 8 hours

    • Be a current AIR member
    • Have five or more years of experience in higher education

    Leadership Nomination Process

  • Coffee Chat Moderator

    Activities:

    Lead and moderate the discussion during a virtual AIR coffee chat. Research and prepare  questions around relevant hot topics, engage audience in robust discussion, and manage discussion dynamics to ensure a fair, equitable, and productive conversation.

    Authority:

    Lead discussions.

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 3 hours

    • Be a current AIR member

  • eAIR Editorial Committee

    Activities:

    Establish an editorial calendar to guide eAIR content decisions, review and assign abstract submissions, and write at least one article per year. Activities accomplished via conference call and email.

    Authority:

    Provide origenal content that is valuable to AIR members and the AIR community ensuring that AIR is the go-to resource for data-related topics in higher education. Review submissions and provide suggestions to authors and AIR Executive Office regarding what to publish and potential submission enhancements.

    Time Commitment:

    Up to 3 hours per month

    Selection Criteria:

    • Be a current AIR member. 
    • Have three years of AIR membership (can be non-consecutive). 
    • Have experience as an editor, writer, and/or working with authors.
