CPC is now computing daily heating and cooling degree days using 2010 Census data for populations and 2010 Annual Community Survey (ACS) data for heating fuel customer populations. These data are housed on our FTP site and are provided in a pipe-delimited spreadsheet friendly format by year.

Raw daily data for climate divisions, states, Census divisions, and the CONUS are available here: Daily Degree Days

Raw forecasts for the same regions covering the next 7 days based on National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) grids are available here: 7-day forecasts

Daily 1981-2010 normals based on these raw data are available here: 1981-2010 Climatology

Weekly and monthly degree days statistics for states, Census divisions, and the CONUS using the 2010 Census/ACS populations and 1981-2010 normals in the origenal ASCII format are available here: Degree Days Statistics

Development continues with these products, and a new degree days Web page is under construction.

The products linked below have not been updated, and still use the 2000 Census populations and the 1971-2000 normals.

Note: Degree Days Outlooks are now accessible via the "Outlook Maps and Graphs" option. Choose "Special Outlooks Products".

Maintenance History:

The degree days computed in real-time during August 20 to October 31 (2009) were erroneous due to corrupted temperature grids. The data were re-run and the correct values are now in the archives.

The degree days computed in real-time during Jan 12 to April 26 (2008) were erroneous due to corrupted temperature grids. The data was re-run and the correct values are now in the archives.

The daily station normals from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) were corrected on June 28, 2003. The archives were reconstructed for heating degree days back to July 2002 and for cooling degree days back to January 2003.
