NPC candidate

In August 2017 John W. Adams stood for election to the Democratic Socialists of America National Political Committee, at the National Convention in Chicago.[2]

I grew up in Texas and have lived in New York, California, Nevada and currently in Washington State. I’m married with three beautiful children, and currently work as a registered nursing assistant with persons with developmental disabilities. My whole life, I’ve been active in politics, first trained as a community organizer by the Industrial Areas Foundation where I used those skills organizing in big cities, small towns and suburbs. In the ‘90s I organized with a local group in Texas building towards the Labor Party. My radicalism emerged through my faith. I was raised in a religious household that taught the radical message of the gospel for all aspects of our lives and society. Socialism is the logical application of my faith, that Justice is Love in action.
Since joining DSA in 2015, I helped establish my local in South Sound DSA, Tacoma WA and serve on its Coordinating Committee. I’ve also mentored new DSA groups in Olympia, Kennewick and Young Democratic Socialist chapter at Pacific Lutheran University. In addition to working hard on the Bernie Campaign, our local worked with other organizations on campaigns to raise the minimum wage in Tacoma, stop the construction of a Methanol plant, and support legislation toward realizing police accountability and reform. Last fall I was the volunteer campaign manager for a local legislative campaign here in Washington. This year, with many others, our local has marched for women, for immigrants, and workers, taking the streets for the Womxn’s March, on May Day, in protest of Tacoma’s Northwest Detention Center, and shutting down Sea-Tac International Airport in opposition to Trumpov’s Muslim Ban..[3]
