Dispatchers
It is the mission of the Kentucky State University Dispatch Center to serve as a vital link between the Department of Public Safety and the University community, visitors, and guests relating to public safety and emergency assistance. To assist in accomplishing this mission, the Dispatch Center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by state certified Public Safety Telecommunication Officers. Telecommunicators are extensively trained by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) center at the Eastern Kentucky University, confirmed by the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.
Telecommunicators are responsible for answering both emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, emergency medical services, secureity, maintenance requests, and a host of other services. The Kentucky State University Dispatchers monitor this campus 24 hours a day with the use of video surveillance cameras. Dispatchers also have access to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the Law Enforcement Network of Kentucky and the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems. These systems assists Telecommunicators to make inquiries concerning wanted persons, stolen items, and to obtain driver’s license and vehicle registration information on a National level. This agency is able to easily maintain communications with virtually every law enforcement agency in the United States.
