A Benefit For

Join us for Champagne Supernova, the brightest party in the galaxy, on October 10, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Delight in a strolling dinner, bubbly beverages, and decadent desserts in our beloved Berkeley science center. Feel “wow”-ed like a kid again, as you experience our surprising science pop-up encounters. And do it all knowing that you’re making a difference for kids, schools, and the world.

Champagne Supernova is a grown-up party benefiting The Lawrence’s programs: inspiring kids with science, and advancing equity and opportunity in science learning.

Black holes are spectacular end products of the fatal attraction of gravity. The most hefty black holes weigh more than 10 billion suns and may even come in twins. Learn more about these cosmological wonders with Dr. Chung-Pei Ma.

Chung-Pei Ma is the Judy Chandler Webb Professor in Physical Sciences and a Professor in Astronomy and Physics at UC Berkeley. She is an astrophysicist who enjoys using luminous matter to study the dark side of the universe: black holes, dark matter, and dark energy. Ma is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is an avid violin player and was a student at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston while pursuing her undergraduate and PhD degrees at MIT.

Parties really “pop!” when you bring guests! Host a constellation of your closest friends with a VIP package. Your entire group will be welcomed at our pre-party VIP experience at 5:00 p.m., and you’ll be recognized as a Champagne Supernova patron.
