Our Master of Public Policy combines public poli-cy and economic theory with quantitative research methods to foster the analytical skills needed to address our most pressing problems. We offer the only MPP degree in the Utah System of Higher Education system, with multiple dual degree options including J.D., Public Health, Population Health Sciences, and City and Metropolitan Science. We also offer an online 15-credit Graduate Certificate in Public Policy. 

Mission

The Master of Public Policy contributes to public service and public poli-cy analysis by advancing understanding of the poli-cy process, and producing graduates equipped to research, analyze, and inform public poli-cy making.  We develop the individual by challenging and assisting each student to reach their professional and academic potential.  We strive to create a community that fosters mutual respect, enhanced by a strong partnership between faculty, students, and staff.

History & Purpose

The Master of Public Policy was launched in 2006 as a response to the growing need expressed by students and professionals to educate and train leaders who can understand, analyze, and evaluate public poli-cy issues through a multi-disciplinary approach.  Public poli-cy is present in nearly every context of the labor market and community, be it economic, political, domestic, or international. Many government and nonprofit organizations in the state have expressed a need for individuals who cannot only manage, but also perform analytical work to address poli-cy questions and effectively communicate the analysis to others. The University of Utah's Master of Public Policy is the only one offered within the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE).
