Participating in the 2025 AMS Annual Meeting

ext reads: “AMS 2025 American Meteorological Society, 105th Annual Meeting, New Orleans, LA and Online, 12-16 January 2025, #NCEIatAMS''

The world’s largest yearly conference for the weather, water, and climate science community takes place next week. Our scientists and staff are participating in the virtual and in-person American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting from January 12-16, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The 105th AMS Annual Meeting includes talks, posters, panel discussions, and town halls. A mix of scientists, educators, students, and other professionals will participate in the hybrid event. The theme this year is "Towards a Thriving Planet: Charting the Course Across Scale."
As is typical, NCEI scientists and staff will contribute to many sessions, presentations, and posters this year.

NCEI publicly shares scientific work, creating awareness and an understanding of our science, services, and products. We strive to provide current information to benefit society in the midst of an ever-changing landscape of technology and knowledge. Our scientists and staff regularly speak at conferences and events, develop visual representations of scientific findings, write papers and reports, and create web and social media content. All of this is done with the goal of making our data, information, and science accessible to a broad audience.

Sector-Relevant Data

At AMS 2025, several of the talks from NCEI’s subject matter experts will focus on a new effort to collaboratively develop and test tailored data and information products and services for industry. NCEI leads the Inflation Reduction Act’s Industry Proving Grounds (IPG), part of the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) federal government-wide investment furthering NOAA’s efforts to build a Climate-Ready Nation. IPG representatives will share how environmental data from NCEI is empowering business leaders to better anticipate, prepare for, and respond to climate-related disturbances, trends, and hazardous events.

Starting in 2024, NCEI has been engaging three primary industries — Insurance and Reinsurance, Retail, and Architecture and Engineering —  to identify gaps in climate information needs. Through ongoing engagement with key members of these industries and the development of new informational products, NOAA’s information is strengthening industry decision-making related to climate resilience.
