Governing Bodies
The Governing Bodies comprise the following: The Pan American Sanitary Conference, the Directing Council, and the Executive Committee. The Subcommittee on Program, Budget, and Administration is an auxiliary advisory body to the Executive Committee.
Pan American Sanitary Conference
The Pan American Sanitary Conference is the supreme governing authority of the Organization. It meets every 5 years to elect the Director of PAHO and to determine its general policies.
Directing Council
The Directing Council acts on behalf of the Conference, meeting once a year during the interval between sessions of the Conference.
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee consists of 9 Members, elected by the Conference or the Council for overlapping terms of 3 years. The Executive Committee meets twice a year and acts as a committee of the Conference or Council.
Subcommittee on Program, Budget and Administration
The Subcommittee on Program, Budget and Administration is an auxiliary advisory body of the Executive Committee and consists of 7 Members. The Subcommittee holds at least one session a year and makes recommendations to the Executive Committee.
Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, PAHO/WHO Director
Dr Jarbas Barbosa is the Director of PAHO, elected by Member States during the 30th Pan American Sanitary Conference on 28 September 2022. Dr Barbosa began his 5-year term on 1 February 2023.
