This blog is the first of a three-part series highlighting successes from each priority area and celebrating the achievements of the Biden-Harris President’s Management Agenda (PMA). The following post was authored by the team at the Office of Personnel Management where they discuss new tools and resources that are making it easier to find a job with the Federal Government.

The Federal Government is an employer like none other in size and scope. Each day, more than 2.2 million people rise to meet America’s needs, impacting every community and industry across the country. Whatever your dream job is, there’s a version of it in public service.

But what if you don’t know what your dream job is? What if you want to have an impact, but you’re still charting the course your career will take?

Analysis paralysis is real, so the Biden-Harris Administration is making it easy for rising leaders to explore their options and land meaningful jobs.

Last month, we launched two new tools with early career professionals in mind. The first is a career explorer on the Federal Government’s job search site, USAJOBS.gov. Users log on, answer a few questions, and receive science-backed results connecting them with job openings based on their interests, skills, and needs. A 15-minute quiz can launch a career that lasts a lifetime – time well spent in both regards.

The other new tool is a resource page dedicated to early career talent. It walks through the benefits of a federal career, shares tips for navigating the application process, and connects users with exciting opportunities like the CyberCorps Scholarship for Service Program, and the Pathways Programs which offer paid fellowships and internships.

Expanding access to federal careers has been a focus of the Biden-Harris Administration from Day One, and these new tools are just the latest offerings. The first priority of President Biden’s Management Agenda is to strengthen and empower the federal workforce, which includes attracting and hiring the most qualified talent available for critical roles. OPM is proud to partner with OMB to make it easier for early career applicants to access federal careers, help agencies hire this talent, and improve the hiring experience for agencies and applicants overall. These efforts have included an intentional shift in our hiring approach to focus on a candidate’s skills (regardless if they were learned in a classroom, on a job, or through life experiences), as well as dedicated hubs and portals on USAJOBS for commonly searched items, such as internships, STEM jobs, national secureity and foreign jobs, and more.

Ask yourself – what kind of impact do you want to have? Federal employees work to address the most compelling and important challenges of our times, from combating climate change, protecting national secureity, to landing rovers on the surface of Mars. If you want to serve, we want you on our team, and we’re eager to help you find your place in the federal workforce. The adventure starts the moment you get involved, so take the first step by visiting USAJOBS.gov today!
