Black and African American Community

The U.S. population is more racially and ethnically diverse than just 10 years ago. We know disasters disproportionately impact several communities, including people with disabilities, older adults, rural residents and especially communities of color. As diversity continues to rise in the country, FEMA continues to improve its strategic approach to advance accessibility and cultural competency in boosting the nation’s preparedness.

The theme of this campaign, “A Lasting Legacy”, centers on Black and African American communities’ devotion to creating a legacy and protecting that legacy so that it may be passed down to future generations. The main idea is the life you’ve built is worth protecting.  Prepare for disasters to create a legacy for you and your family. The campaign leverages the rich, diverse culture of the Black and African American communities to inspire people of all background to be prepared.
