Bonnie Dunbar
Bonnie Dunbar is an American astronaut who was born on March 3, 1949, in
Washington.
Before she became an astronaut, Dunbar was an engineer for several
different companies.
Dunbar became an astronaut in 1981. She has spent over 761 hours in
space on 3 spaceflights. She is considered one of the most experienced
female astronauts in the world.
In 1985, Dunbar made her first spaceflight aboard Spacelab. The crew
performed several experiments during this week-long mission. She made
her second flight aboard STS-32 in 1990. She helped capture the Long
Duration Exposure Facility for a return to Earth.
In 1992, Dunbar made her longest flight aboard STS-50. The crew spent
two weeks aboard the Microgravity Laboratory. During this mission, the
crew conducted several experiments on space manufacturing.
