Richard Mullane

Richard Mullane was an American astronaut who was born on September 10, 1945, in Texas. Before he became an astronaut, Mullane was a Air Force fighter pilot in the Vietnam War.

Mullane became an astronaut in 1978. He has spent over 356 hours in space on three spaceflights.

Mullane made his first spaceflight aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in 1984. This was the first voyage of the space shuttle. In 1989 and 1990, he flew aboard Department of Defense missions.
