Student Events at ASB 2024

Student Welcome Event

Monday, Aug 5th at 5:30 PM-6:00 PM before the Opening Reception

Meet up with fellow student attendees prior to heading to the larger ASB Welcome Reception. This will be an opportunity to build connections and get to know some faces before heading into the rest of the conference.

Student Night Out

Monday, Aug 5th at 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM

High Noon Saloon, 701 E Washington Ave, Madison, WI 53703

Join us for a night spent socializing with other students at one of Madison’s local venues. Appetizers will be provided, with additional food and drink available for purchase. More details to follow!

Mentor/Mentee Lunch

Tuesday, Aug 6th at 12:15 PM-1:45 PM

Take advantage of one of our most popular events, the mentor/mentee match! A survey will be sent out in July to gather information regarding your interests to fit you with a suitable mentor. We are grateful to always have a large number of mentors from academia, industry, and government. Many students report lasting relationships with their mentors even after the meeting.

Student Chapter Leadership Lunch

Wednesday, Aug 7th at 11:15 AM – 12:45 PM

The ASB Student Body will be hosting our annual summer Student Chapters Meeting during lunch. The purpose of this event is for members of ASB Student Chapters to come together to exchange ideas and ask questions about what their chapters have been doing over the past year, as well as provide a space for students interested in starting an ASB chapter to ask any questions they have about the process. The ASB Student Rep, as well as several current chapter presidents, will be on hand to lead a Q&A session, which will be followed by time to break into smaller groups and meet people from other schools.

Professional Development Roundtables

Thursday, Aug 8th at 11:15 AM – 12:45 PM

This roundtable style event welcomes undergraduate students, graduate students (or aspiring graduate students), and postdoctoral fellows to speak with and learn from experienced members of the biomechanics community about a variety of topics. Some academic topics will include the preparation of scholarship/fellowship applications for national funding agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF), manuscript writing and reviewing, and teaching. Non-academic topics will include, but are not limited to: government and industry career paths, technology development and entrepreneurship, as well as equity, diversity and inclusion in academia. There will also be roundtables dedicated specifically to postdoctoral students seeking next steps and undergraduate/masters students looking to apply to graduate school.
